Nexium (Esomeprazole) is a popular NSAID (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug). It is used to treat certain types of pain and inflammation in the body. It is a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces the production of inflammatory prostaglandins by causing them to be inhibited by the body's natural production of hormones (pro-inflammatory cytokines). NSAIDs are used to lower the body's production of these hormones by inhibiting their formation in the stomach and intestines. The pro-inflammatory cytokines are produced by the body's immune system which are responsible for causing inflammation and pain. Nexium is a prescription-only drug that is used to treat various types of pain and inflammation in the body.
